Socrates Sapounas is a self-taught writer, painter and cartoonist from Athens, Greece.
He specializes in surrealist portraits, poems and comics. Through his art he explores identity and the human condition. His creations set out to immerse the viewer in a state between dream and reality. There, where the outside is tranformed under the weight of the invisible world.
He works traditionally and favors the use of analogue mixed media on paper by mixing pencils and graphite with acrylic paint, oils, ink and found objects.
He has created covers for a variety of creators internationally, and as of 2021 the focus of his creative endeavors has been his ongoing self-published graphic novel series “Metamorphosis” for which he has run two successful Kickstarter Crowdfunding campaigns (2021, 2024).
He has exhibited his works at M.A.D.S. Art gallery, Delirium.Athens, Chili Art Gallery & Time of Art Gallery (15 shows in Greece and Internationally).
He has taken part in some of the most prominent comics and art festivals in Greece
In October 2021 he held his first solo exhibition “Just Like Mirrors” and in April 2023 his second one titled “Hide & Seek” at Delirium.Athens.
