Björn Barends (b. 1982, Germany) is an illustrator and artist with a passion for the fantastic, the dark, and the supernatural. He studied at IBKK in Bochum and Artez in Zwolle, where he specialized in illustration and design. He began his career working with traditional media such as ink, watercolors, and airbrush, later transitioning into digital art (2D and 3D). His work blends fantasy, horror, and science fiction, characterized by strong atmosphere and macabre themes, which have established him as a distinctive voice in illustration and comics.
He has collaborated with leading publishers and creative studios including Marvel, DC, Image Comics, Dynamite, McFarlane Toys, CoolMiniOrNot, and Modiphius Entertainment, with his art featured on covers, games, and collectibles. Alongside his professional career, he shares his expertise through workshops and teaching in digital painting and illustration, inspiring new artists to explore the boundaries of imagination and dark art.
